Our projects
The projects of the Lifelong Learning Center deal with current issues relating to lifelong learning.
The projects serve to develop internal expertise as well as to ensure quality and further develop the lifelong learning offerings of the University of Bern. They flow into the development of programs, advice and teaching and are also relevant to a specialist audience. In addition, the LLC undertakes studies and analyses on behalf of third parties.
Room concept for continuing education 2035
alternative solutions for growing demand
The University of Bern needs a sustainable infrastructure for University continuing education. The Cantonal Parliament of the Canton of Bern did not approve the continuing education center (previous project) originally planned at the UniS due to cost-cutting measures. In order to meet the increasing space requirements as much as possible by 2035, the Lifelong Learning Center (LLC) is developing an alternative solution together with the Building Development Office and Facility Management Office (ongoing project). The project aims to make optimum use of existing spaces and to develop innovative, flexible spatial concepts that meet both operational and didactic requirements.

Digital continuing education management
increased efficiency through a new administration tool
A new tool is being introduced to support the entire core process digitally and increase the efficiency of the administration of continuing education programs at the University of Bern. The project is in line with the University of Bern’s strategic focus on digital transformation and focuses on optimizing work processes, avoiding redundant data entry and minimizing media disruptions. The aim is to facilitate the efficient, cost- and effort-reducing administration of continuing education programs, so that the focus can be placed on content and the quality of execution.

BEflex
Making continuing education more flexible at the University of Bern
The BEflex project aims to make University continuing education more flexible through modularization and personalization. Compatible formats with electives and combinations are designed to tailor continuing education programs more individually and precisely to the needs of the participants. Degree programs with modular structures that enable such flexibility already exist today – BEflex is building on this and expanding its range of courses in a targeted manner. A key milestone of the project is the introduction of micro-certificates that enable step-by-step, individually adaptable training and promote the recognition of sub-competencies. BEflex is implemented in close cooperation with the Vice-Rectorate Teaching. It is part of the digitalization strategy of the University of Bern and supports the University in preparing for future developments in higher education and further increasing its attractiveness to learners.
